It’s been a whirlwind since getting home ten days ago. I went right into teaching summer courses and the pictures I promised you are long/late in coming. The picture above is the team taking our first few steps west on the Great Himalaya Trail. Kanchenjunga is in the back left corner.
Marian and I are still walking even though we aren’t on the GHT. We can’t seem to stop. We walk to and fro work and have been putting up some decent step numbers each day.
Yesterday, because I was hiking with my students, as well as our normal walking, I broke the single day record at 35,373 steps! We miss being on the trail each and every day and check in on former team-mates (they are just crossing Tilman Pass) as often as new updates are posted. All of my visual soliloquies of late (and in the next while) are/will be from the Great Big Walk.
I will be doing a public presentation on the Great Big Walk on June 5 at 7:30 pm in room PE 2001 at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Entrance is free but we’ll be collecting donations to fund an upgrade to the latest expedition communications gear.
