This time we are chasing Lawren Harris' Entrance to Quidi Vidi. We knew in the field we didn't quite have it-so we'll head back. Finding & accessing the correct spot, light, lens to shoot with, etc. is a wonderful puzzle of technical, geographical, & outdoor skills. #NLgeoartFrom my first post on Twitter about the #NLgeoart project,Last weekend, we wanted to head out on a hike. For inspiration, Marian remembered that we'd been to a virtual talk by Jim and Sue Waddington entitled "Following the Group of Seven" where they used their canoeing skills to revisit the spots that had been the inspiration for several Group of Seven paintings. Marian remembered that they had said there were Group of Seven paintings that had been done in NL and that Jim and Sue had asked for folks in NL to track down the sites. Online we went and found a painting by Lawren Harris. We also found a painting by Robert Wakeham Pilot and we set off to find the spot from which they may have been painted. We stopped in many places comparing the topography to the paintings. Here I'm getting close to the spot from where Robert Pilot may have done his painting as well as Lawren Harris. It was such a cool exploration and led us to a spot above Quidi Vidi we hadn't been to before! The second image is me trying to see how close we were by lining up Harris' painting with our photograph. The third is so you can enjoy the view without me interrupting it! :-) Stay tuned...the project continues...Our 5th day on the line. We had so many visitors: biology students,My happy place with my happy person…nothing like a great hike after a morning of walking the line!TA’s Facebook Page
