Step Five: Paddle the Water in Front of You

Today we paddled Brule Lake. We were up early to beat the wind and were rewarded with a mirror lake and easily found channel and current.

We’d read and heard that things “got bouncy” after Brule Lake as the current picked up and the gradient got a bit steeper and we’d seen the water pouring by the Hwy 40 Bridge a few days ago and the flow rate is up and and and…so we were a bit jazzed and wound up tight this am…

Long story short, since I’m beat is that the bouncy bits were fine, we snuck the Hwy 40 Bridge with a beautiful eddy turn on a heck of an eddy line, and we paddled the water that was actually in front of us rather than the water in our minds. Good stuff. For both rivers and life.
